Safe Patient Handling Equipment Common Questions:

Where do I find the slings?
Slings for the Sabina (solo support vest) and Viking or Golvo (solo high back or repositioning sheet) can be found in your unit supply room

How do I know if the Lift or Sling can support the patient?
The weight capacity for both slings and the lifts are found on the product labels.

  • Golvo Movile Lift: 440 lbs Max
  • Viking M Mobile LIft: 440 lbs Max
  • Viking XL Mobile LIft: 660 lbs Max
  • Sabina Sit-to-Stand Lift:  440 lbs Max
  • Freespan Overhead Lifts (ICU):  550 lbs Max

How do I know if the sling can support the patient?
The weight capacity for slings can be found on the product label on each sling.

  • Solo High Back Sling:  440 lbs Max

What if I have a patient that weighs over 440 lbs?
Bariatric Repositioning sheets and slings with capacity of 1100 lbs are available and will be labeled "Bariatric".  Please use these only for patients that weigh more than 440 lbs as they are very costly.

Are slings re-usable?
Slings are re-usable for the same patient only.  Once the sling is no longer needed or the patient is discharged, the sling is disposed of.  Slings are not launderable and cannot be used on multiple patients.

How do I clean a Lift?
The Lifts can be disinfected with the hospitaol bleach wipes currently used in our hospital.  Bleach should not be applied to the Overhead Lift or the Golvo Lift Straps.

What if I find a lift that is not operating correctly or damaged in some way?
The Lift should have a red "Removed from Service" tag placed on it and Plant Operations should be notified.
